Looks like Google is going to be treading on Uber's toes soon. Considering the bad PR this company has been getting in the last few months (including a twitter feed dedicated to people sharing their bad experiences), does this mean the end is near for Uber?
Google is looking into developing an Uber-like service with a fleet of self-driving cars, reports Bloomberg's Brad Stone. A Google exec on Uber's board informed them of the possibility and people at Uber saw screenshots of a Google ride-sharing app in beta test inside the company, Stone writes. That's all according to anonymous sources and at a very exploratory stage, but it makes sense that such a forward-thinking company as Google wouldn't adopt the outgoing private ownership model for its self-driving vehicles. Why sell a car once when you can sell a service thousands of times – and display in-car ads? (Tesla does, but it's selling a status object and an experience, as much as a way to get places.)
