I started teaching myself to create video poems last year as part of a personal challenge. I can't claim to be a total expert in the genre, but I'm pretty good at finding free or cheap shortcuts and workarounds, so I thought it'd be useful to host a workshop where I'd a) share these tips b) allow everyone the space to experiment and try things out, with me on hand to help out.
In that spirit, I'm hosting my first Video Poetry for Beginners workshop, in Oxford, on Sunday 3rd September. You can book your place here.
Here's in brief what the afternoon will involve:
- Watching examples of various video poems for inspiration
- A walk through different types of software and an explanation of how to use each of them to create effects
- The creation of your own video or GIF poem
For this 6th videopoem in the advent calendar, we have Catherine Ayres' Leaving at Day Break.
